MSA Board Meeting & Public Safety Discussion 6/18/20
On June 18 MSA held it’s first in-person meeting in months. Special thanks to Caydence for providing us the space for this meeting. We had a discussion about the intersection of skateboarding and public safety, and how skateparks and skateboarding in general can play a role in the community as the Twin Cities looks at defunding traditional police departments.
This discussion then segued into a conversation about how to move forward with our skatepark project for Payne-Phalen. We have found a lot of support from skaters, residents, and community leaders in the neighborhood, and have formed a task force to specifically tackle this project. The next step here is to form a more concrete plan to present to and work on with city leaders. We are also planning a community event to get Payne-Phalen / East Side residents interested in the project and to gain their support for a destination skatepark on the East Side.
